Jimmy Wilson
Background: Began playing horns at the age of six. Studied privately under the late A. Jack Thomas (Bandmaster), as well as guidence from his grandfather, James H. Wilson, Sr., a renowned trumpet virtuoso and bandmaster in his own right.
Attended the preparatory department of the Peabody Conservatory of Music.
Professional Experience: Has performed live on records with a variety of notable artists, including, Larry Coryell, Bobby Rydell, the late Larry Young, Damita Joe, Rufus Thomas, Larry Bright, O'Donel Levy, Nathan Page, Mark Wood, Gerald Veasley, Scott Ambush, Gary Thomas, as well as renowned drummers Chester Thompson and Dennis Chambers.
Live performances with "Blue Thumb" recording artist Maysa (Lcognito).
Recording dates also include the Grainger Brothers' debut release "Phase One," GES recording artist Slim Man's CD "Secret Rendevous," the latest release from the Julius Brockington Family and latest release from electric violinist, Brian Silber.
Jimmy Was bandleader for his very successful contemporary jazz band, "Fastlife" for five years and has performed with numerous regional artists, including extensive session work as a studio musician, covering many styles of music.
Co-produced his first studio project "Identity" with Lamont T. Battle, a Baltimore-based-producer/ midi programmist/bassist.
Jimmy has produced various DJ and Hip Hop artists, including the 12-inch vinyl release from DJ Kevin James, "Glad Today" in 2003.
Recent: In 2008, Jimmy released the third album, "Bright Light from a Single Spark. In 2009 this ablum was the winner of the Individual Artist Award in Artistic Excellence from the Maryland State Arts Council.
